This Saturday, the funky seaside village of Gulfport will welcome over 50,000 visitors to one of the largest, most anticipated annual events in Tampa Bay – GeckoFest! This day-long festival dedicated to the town’s unofficial mascot marks the culmination of summer and Gulfport’s 2016 gecko season.
In case you’ve never been to GeckoFest before…
Amid the thousands of festival-goers will be dozens of street merchants, arts and crafts booths and food vendors from all over St. Pete/Clearwater. Stroll Beach Blvd. and come face-to-face with dancers, jugglers, and magicians in a circus-like setting. Stages on both the north and south ends of Beach Blvd. will sport live entertainment and numerous musicians throughout the day.
GeckoFest is a perfect time for visitors to explore Gulfport’s Waterfront District along the shores of Boca Ciega Bay.
So much to do…
The annual Gecko Parade will leave Gulfport’s Historic Casino at 6pm led by the Gecko Queen and her court. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes touting this year’s gecko theme, “20,000 Geckos Under the Sea.” A costume contest will immediately follow the parade where both children and adults have the opportunity to win prizes for best ensemble. The festival concludes with a giant street party and dance with live music beginning at 8pm on the corners of Beach Blvd. and Shore Blvd. in the heart of downtown Gulfport.
This family and pet-friendly day of fun in the sun is generously ponsored by the non-profit Gulfport Merchants Association. And the best part? Admission is FREE! Visitors can also find free event parking along the streets near downtown.
Mark your calendars!
GeckoFest will be held Saturday, Sept. 3 from 10am to 10pm and runs rain or shine. Don’t miss the hottest party of the year!
